The Modern Ayurvedic Wellness Week was born out of one very special client’s desire to give-back to herself during a ‘stay-cation’. For two years now, we have worked together in designing an annual, seven-day, customised, self-directed wellness retreat.
Whether it’s COVID-19 dictating when and where we can or cannot getaway to, or you’re feeling the need to create space for yourself to wholesomely reconnect within – the Wellness Week is seven days of Ayurvedically curated guidance and in-clinic treatments
The overriding Ayurvedic aim in health and wellbeing is to bring your Vikriti (vitiated/imbalanced) state back into alignment with your Prakriti (natural constitution). So, to begin your Wellness Week, we've included a complimentary 30-minute consultation to help us discover the version of yourself now (Vikriti) and where you’ve ventured from (Prakriti). This is how we learn which doshas (Vata, Pitta and/or Kapha) are out of balance (depleted or in excess), and curate a seven-day, self-directed retreat that’s as unique as you.
What do we mean by self-directed?
Time outside of your 6-days of in-clinic treatments will be spent following your personalised 7-day wellness plan, in the comfort of your home/air bnb/hotel, which includes suggestions for meditation, daily routine (dinacharya) rituals, diet and points of reflection. Madeleine learnt the importance of proper rest between Ayurvedic therapies during her placement in India and personal experience of pañchkarma. Pañchkarma is an Ayurvedic detoxification program that incorporates ancient Ayurvedic cleansing rituals such as enema. Here she learnt that the most powerful and profound times felt throughout her Indian journey was spent in calm solitude, within a good book or journal, and with structured, sattvic foods tailored to her doshas. So, we invite our Wellness Week clients to follow their wellness plans to the best of their abilities. For this is an opportunity to switch off, let go of your regular routine, gain greater momentum in strengthening your Ayurvedic lifestyle, and of course feel refreshed at the end of it all. My first appointment was so profound to understanding my body, just by asking a few questions I could put the pieces of my life together. Everything Madeleine suggested to implement was gentle and she introduced things at my pace, although it’s taken longer for some to become habit! I completed a “wellness week”, which was the lead up after starting with the Wellness Journey and monthly consults, and custom herbs 6 months prior. At the end of last year, I was drained, tired, had stomach issues and weight gain, and still grieving the loss of my dad. It’s taken some time to understand and implement the Ayurvedic principles, but the steps are so easy to implement into any lifestyle and it doesn’t take long to become addicted to the effects.
The wellness week consisted of alternating treatments of shirodhara and bolus massages for 6 days and eating a diet of Kitchari (which is delicious!). I created a space at home and Madeleine designed a week of self-care activities that I could easily complete and found flexible depending on how I was feeling. I had ‘blah’ days but I had energetic days. I loved that I saw Madeleine every day and she supported me with all the questions that came up for me. Completing the Wellness Week at home and not going away to a retreat was perfect as it was in my own space, so I can continue the practices into my everyday life.
What I love now is I have tools aligned to suit my specific constitution and that I know make me feel good. Everything now just makes sense. I feel incredible. Thank you, Madeleine!
